Being able to communicate effectively is a cornerstone of community building across cultures. This is done best when community leaders, and their members, have a strong sense of cross cultural humility - a dynamic and lifelong process focusing on self-reflection and personal critique, acknowledging one's own biases while learning about the cultures of others.
Joey Leskin, Founder of Discover the Street, will explore how we combine cross cultural humility with the core foundations of community building to develop a set of best practices to motivate and engage our communities, wherever and whoever they might be.
What to expect from the event:
We will dive into the concept of cross cultural humility and explore how it has evolved from historical notions of cross cultural competency. We will then see how it applies to core foundations of community building such as defining our mission, facilitating connections among members and providing value and content to our audience.
Throughout, we will have opportunities to apply what we are learning to the real life communities we are part of. Come ready to learn, apply your own experience and leave with a tangible set of actions for any community that you manage or participate in.
The session will wrap up with a chance to ask Joey questions.
